Melissa joined the board in 2008. Over the past decade, Melissa has lead several strategic planning efforts for Bluebird Cancer Retreats. “I came to appreciate the organization’s compelling mission, to see the passion of the volunteers and, most importantly, to see lives that were deeply touched by Bluebird’s healing journey.”

Board Members::

Amy Atkinson
Vice President of Account Services, RC Productions

As the daughter of a breast cancer survivor, Amy was inspired to join the board in 2009. “I learned through my mother's fight that, with a great attitude and strong support group, the disease can open up new doors and enlightenment instead of sadness and grief.” Her marketing expertise and positive outlook will be a great addition to the organization.

St. Mary’s Health Care – Lacks Cancer Center

Tracey joined the Bluebird Board of Directors in 2008. As a specialized Oncology Social Worker since 1992, Tracey knows, first hand, the needs of those with cancer. “Bluebird captured my heart when I volunteered at a retreat. It is an incredible experience for campers and staff, alike.”

Jeanne Farrer
     Retired Teacher – Elementary Education

After volunteering at several camps, Jeanne joined the Bluebird Cancer Retreats board in 2007. As a retired teacher seasoned in multi-cultural interpersonal relations, Jeanne has a true heart for helping others. “Serving at camp in a sense helps you get outside yourself and appreciate that in the heartaches and struggles, you can also find joy and hope.”

Richard "Rick" Leist
Oppenheimer & Co. Inc., Senior Vice President-Investments, Branch Manager

Rick joined the board in 2007. “Every family has been touched by cancer. Mine is no exception. My first son, John, died from acute lympocytic leukemia at age 2 and my grandfather died from lung cancer.” Rick brings a charisma and heart for Bluebird that is truly a gift.

Gloria LeMaire
     Legal Assistant, Messinger Legal Services

We were thrilled to welcome Gloria back to the board in 2008. She previously served a double term from 2000 - 06. Gloria is truly inspired by those she serves. “I have volunteered for years and have lost several of the campers who became friends. I wouldn’t trade any of the time I spent with these very special individuals.” Gloria has also held board seats on United Way Allocations Committee and Volunteer Center.

Tom Palmer
     Owner, Farm Bureau Insurance Agency
     Evangelist, Church of Christ

Tom joined Bluebird in 2009 after losing both his parents to cancer within two years of one another. “I have experienced the trials and tribulations, small victories and defeats, and the grind life can become when fighting for your life. Bluebird helps give respite from this grind and a chance to step off the roller coaster for a while”.

Ann Ross
     Owner, BearHeart Reflexology

Ann joined the Bluebird Board in 2008 after serving as a volunteer with her training in Japanese reflexology. “My older sister died of cancer at age 54. We were excited to add Lorie to the Bluebird board in 2009. Dawn Stebbins
Office Manager, West Michigan Auto Body

After serving at several Bluebird retreats, Dawn joined our team as a board member in 2009. “I realized during my first camp outing that both the cancer survivors and those coping with cancer are just amazing people.” Dawn has lost her father to cancer and is helping her mother recover from successful treatment of a recent cancer diagnosis. She recently completed a term serving as financial secretary for St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
