Our History ... One Man's
Dream
Bluebird has a
long history of providing hope for adults with cancer. What started as a
single Camp Bluebird retreat in Alabama in 1985, has evolved into numerous retreats
held throughout the country. It was at one such retreat in North
Carolina that Bill Timm, a Spring Lake resident battling cancer, decided
to bring
Camp Bluebird
to West Michigan.
Bluebird
provided Bill with hope, and that hope led to a dream, a dream of
bringing Camp Bluebird to West Michigan to help others diagnosed with
cancer. It was this dream that helped him through the difficult days.
Although Bill Timm died
in 1994, his dream lived on through his wife Robin and their friend and
pastor, Peter Theune. Together they united four interested organizations
(Christ Community Church,
North Ottawa Community Hospital, Hospice of North Ottawa Community and
the American Cancer Society of Ottawa County) for the first Camp
Bluebird of West Michigan retreat on the shores of Lake Michigan in
1996.
Today, Bluebird hosts 4 weekend retreats. We are extremely proud to be
touching the lives of those who deserve the opportunity to engage in a
program designed to ease their cancer burdens.
Different dreams
have different beginnings, but for a dream to become a reality the
dreamer must put forth amazing effort. We invite the medical and support
community in all of West Michigan to join in sustaining Bill Timm's
dream. |
